Meet Band Members
1. Tim – Solo Cornet
Tim is one of the Solo cornet players and is the secretary of Worcester Concert Brass.
He has been playing for an impressive 30 years, with 21 of those spent with the band.
One of his favourite things about banding is the carolling in the community at Christmas, especially when people stop to listen and join in with the singing.
His favourite brass band piece is ‘Portsmouth Chimes’.

2. Bill – Baritone

Bill has been with the band for 22 years and now plays 1st Baritone, having previously played Bass Trombone.
His favourite piece in the current pad is Malvern Suite, while his all-time favourite is Frolic for Trombones — perhaps a little nod to his former instrument! 🎺
One of Bill’s favourite band memories is our trip to Le Vésinet in 2009, and his music-making doesn’t stop with brass banding either — he also sings in a choral group.
3. Lucy – 1st Trombone
Lucy plays 1st Trombone and also keeps us visible as the band’s Publicity Officer.
She’s been with the band for 3 years, making her one of our more recent recruits.
A favourite date in the diary for Lucy is Pershore Midsummer Brass — a brilliant summer event with plenty of brass, atmosphere and community spirit. ☀️🎶

4. Gavin – Eb Bass

Gavin is one of our Eb Bass players. He occasionally conducts, and he’s been part of the band for 17 years — with 40 years of playing behind him.
A highlight of the band calendar for Gavin is the Mayor’s Concert. His favourite piece of music currently is Pirates of the Caribbean. 🏴☠️🎶
When he’s not playing with us, Gavin is also busy on the other side of the stand, conducting Malvern Chase Brass Band.
And if he could make one request… more bass players please! 😄
5. John – 2nd Cornet
🎺 Meet John!
John plays 2nd Cornet and has been part of the band for 10 years. He also takes care of our music as the band’s Librarian.
John’s happiest when there’s a village fête on the calendar, and when it comes to favourite pieces, The Floral Dance is hard to beat. 🌼🎶
A proper brass band classic for someone who clearly enjoys a good traditional banding occasion!

6. Faye – 2nd Horn

🎺 Faye has been with the band for 12 years and plays 2nd Horn.
Her favourite piece in the current pad is ‘Wicked’ 🎶, and one of her standout band memories is playing at Norbury Theatre for Brassed Off.
Faye’s message for anyone thinking about having a go themselves is a simple one:
“It’s never too late to learn an instrument!”
7. Liza – Soprano Cornet & Flugelhorn
🎺 Liza plays both Flugelhorn and Soprano Cornet, and with an impressive 27½ years of continuous service, she may well be our longest-serving current member. This is a photo of Liza from the bands trip to Le Vésinet in 2009!
She’s also the person behind much of what you see from us on Facebook — so if you’ve spotted one of our posts, there’s a good chance Liza had something to do with it!
Her favourite piece in the current pad is Barnard Castle, while her all-time favourite is Trailblaze by Goff Richards. 🎶
And when it comes to favourite jobs from years gone by, Worcester Beer Festival is hard to beat! 🍺

8. Neil – Soprano Cornet & Flugelhorn

Neil is one of our Solo Cornet players, and behind the scenes he’s also the person who keeps our website up and running.
His pick from the current pad is Yellow by Coldplay, while his all-time favourite is Mr Jums. 🎶
A standout band memory for Neil came this summer, when we had the privilege of re-opening the bandstand at Gheluvelt Park — a pretty special occasion to be part of!
